Steel strand is a steel product composed of multiple steel wires. The surface of the carbon steel can be added with galvanized layer, zinc-aluminum alloy layer, aluminum-clad layer, copper-plated layer, epoxy resin coating, etc. as needed.
Industrial steel strands are important hardware used in concrete structures for reinforcement and safety.
There are 7 types of industrial steel strand. Although almost all industrial stranded wire is made of steel, there are several different types of industrial stranded wire created for different applications. They include:
1. Unbonded steel strand:
Most uses for unbonded strand involve post-tensioning. The steel strands in use can be separated from the concrete through anti-corrosion grease and polyethylene plastic, allowing the steel strands to move freely within the layer, making construction more convenient. Unbonded PC strands have very little friction between them and can be easily bent into a variety of curved shapes.
2. Bonded steel strand:
High tensile strength, firm connection with concrete, stable construction, and good combination with reinforced concrete. It can also save materials, reduce deformation and structural weight, and improve stiffness, wear resistance, and waterproofness.
3. Spiral ribbed steel strand:
In terms of strength and durability, spiral ribbed strands are comparable to bonded strands and can be used in precast concrete elements. The surface of the steel wire adopts a spiral rib design, which is unique. This unique design provides better adhesion to concrete, making it an excellent choice for construction under pressure.
4. Zigzag steel strand:
The surface texture of zigzag strands is similar to that of spiral ribbed strands. Due to its high strength and long life, this type of steel strand is often used in the manufacture of precast concrete components such as beams and columns.
5. Stranded steel wire:
Compared to other strands, multi-strand strand bends fairly easily, making it an excellent choice for curved or odd-shaped buildings.
6. Coated Steel Strands:
In terms of elasticity, coated steel strands are comparable to unbonded steel strands, but they include a protective coating to fend off corrosion. This steel strand has better bonding qualities and weather resistance, making it perfect for post-tensioning applications.
7.Prestressed Steel Strands:
In terms of strength and durability, pre-stressed steel strands are comparable to bonded steel strands; however, they are pre-stressed to increase the strength and stability of the concrete construction. This kind of steel strand is well known for its capacity to withstand high-stress levels and is frequently used in the building of precast concrete parts, such as beams and columns.
